Surfr Kitesurfing App for older models - Fenix 6 Pro

Hi

Now that the Surfr App is finally available on the Garmin platform, years after Apple Watch and numerous Google/Android watches supported this fantastic kitesurfing app!!

Can you PLEASE roll this out to older models, including the Fenix 6 range. I have considered leaving Garmin many times because Surfr was not supported and is readily available on alternative platforms.

If this is not offered to older models, I will unfortunately have to move away from the Garmin platform, as I’m sure many other Garmin kitesurfers will be forced to do.

  • If you mean The Surfr. App in the Connect IQ store, then it was not developed by Garmin. It comes from a 3rd party. Use the link "Contact Developer" on that page, and ask the developer to add the support of your device, too. Garmin cannot help you with that, and neither could we (forum users) help you with it,

  • That’s up to the app developer. Contact them for additional device.

  • You may be right, but according to the developer, to provide compatibility for the app, updates to the Garmin software on older models is required?.  See https://www.thesurfr.app/faq/

  • Thanks for reply. Unfortunately this can only be put in place by Garmin.

For high accuracy Jump calculation Surfr.AI needs 100 measurements per second (hertz) of the watch’ sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope). Till recently this was not possible on any Garmin watch, but as of now Garmin has unlocked this 100 hertz for there latest watch models.

Garmin still needs to bring out software updates to unlock this 100 hertz on ‘older’ models, because they are currently still stuck at 25 hertz.

It’s up to Garmin to release this via a software update. Otherwise lots of kitesurfers on Fenix 5 or 6 will move to the Apple or Google platforms, who have been offering this functionality for years.

  • I would also love if Garmin could expedite pushing the software update allowing Fenix 6 range to support 100hz accelerometer / gyroscope data.

I'm in a similar situation. Been waiting for Surfr App on Garmin for a long time. Was disappointed to find out that a watch as recent as the Fenix 6 range isn't able to support the app yet, due to the 25hz sensor limitation.

I also considered leaving Garmin just to be able to have the Surfr app on my watch. I know many others in the kitesurfing community who have the same sentiment.
