Unbalance HRV

  • After weeks of HRV around 25  it became unballenced falling to 23 for a few days then rose steadily to over 50 in 6 days and then sat unbalanced varying from 48 to 54. Because my 4 week average is rising it looks as if my HRV level at around 50 will again be classed as balanced.  I am 64 yrs old a bit overweight working out twice per week. I don’t understand why my HRV rose from around 25 to 50 in less than a week.

We cannot know, since we know nothing about your body. Only your physician could tell (if he monitored your health & fitness continuously with medical devices). However, generally taken, increased HRV means less stress, and it is a rather positive sign. Perhaps you just got out of a bad period with high body stress, fatigue, or illness. Once the HRV baseline stabilizes in a few days, you'll be back in green again (from the graph it looks like it will happen in a day or two, if the tendence remains similar).

  • Thanks. I will take it as a good sign but keep an eye on it. I bought the Garmin Instinct 2 back in late September and my HRV sat around 23-30 for over 3 months. I was not aware of being ill or particularly stressed at the time. I think it was the sudden increase to around 50 over 6 days that surprised me.

  • After over a month at the higher level of 50+ my HRV dropped back over a week to be steady around 26. I don’t understand why it increased or why it fell back to where it started

  • Yet another change. After a month being back  down around 27-30 my HRV is once again on an upward trajectory rising over a week to sit currently around 53. Very confused as have not been ill at any point nor felt at all unwell during any of the periods when HRV was low.
