VO2 Max & Cycling

So it was my understanding that cycling/indoor cycling activites wouldn't trigger an update to my VO2 Max without use of a power meter.

So hear me out, I completed another of my usual evening spin classes last night. High intensity for around 40mins connected to a Garmin Speed/distance sensor calibrated with my flywheel. Once the session was complete I noticed my VO2 Max had increased slightly just like it may do after recording a running activity.

Just to be clear this isn't my specific Cycling Vo2 max, it has updated my general Vo2 max

Any clue why it would do that without a power meter?
