Custom Strength workout, Weight training plan. Am I missing something?

Hi,
I've recently got myself a vVvoactive 4 and trying to work out how to make a custom strength training plan and want to see if there is a way to util

So for context, the workout I'm trying to add has 8 exercises with most having 4-5 sets. The weight and reps vary between the sets. What I'm trying to achieve is knowing what exercise I'm doing, having the rep counter and a rest in between then repeating them with the weight and rep variance.

Essentially the easiest way would be to have each exercise as repeat rounds, however you can't change the weights or reps for each round
Example Repeated rounds grouped

The only way I can see to make what I'm trying to do possible is to manually add in each step, resulting in a workout that has 80 odd steps by the time you add the rests as well.

Example: 1 exercise requiring multiple steps for 5 sets at different reps.

I currently record my workouts in a book and after using the watch during a workout would love to utilise the tolls there, am I missing something?

  • Use the Rounds feature, and let the individual exercises without any weight defined. You can then enter the used weight as you work out, or later in Garmin Connect.

  • I don't mind that idea but it still presents the problem of rep variance and I thought the whole idea of setting up the workout was to not only track but have a guide on what to follow. Kind of defeats the point if I'm still having to use the book anyway.

  • Reps. can be edited in real-time during the workout, or later in Garmin Connect, as well. If you need a guide to follow, either use the Note, and write for example "add 5kg and reduce the reps by 1 each round", or something in that way, or do what you mentioned in the OP - program all of the steps individually. I am afraid there is no other miraculous solution available right now for you, but if you have a an idea, suggest it to Garmin: Share Ideas | Garmin

  • I wouldn't count on your watch getting the reps correct every time. Some exercises, those with clear arm movements are often correct, but others not so much. Knowing this, I have the exercises configured as follows:

    • Duration - Lap Button Press
    • Weight - Manual.

That gives me the opportunity during the rest step to adjust both the reps and weight as needed. After a while, I've become adept at quickly doing this without fumbling for buttons on the watch (epix Gen 2).

Kind of defeats the point if I'm still having to use the book anyway.

True, if you thought it was all going to be automated on the watch. To be fair, I have a home gym with a PC setup, so I also view the workout on a spreadsheet or a whiteboard. That helps me keep better track and to know when I need to adjust the workout for next time (more weight, different exercises, etc.).
