Multi Garmin device upload to Strava issues - Can I upload a single activity from GC to Strava?

I have a Garmin Edge 130 plus and a Venu 2 watch.

My watch auto uploads to Strava almost immediately after saving a ride. I have to open Garmin Connect on my iPhone to sync the Edge 130 activity. This is fine.

Mostly I do not want to upload both activities as they are identical and then mess up my Strava data.

However, while the Venu 2 syncs every time without fail, the Edge is very erratic in uploading to Strava.

Today the Venu failed to record my whole ride and cut it short from 75km to 20km. The Edge recorded the whole thing.

The problem is, the Venu synced to Strava and I CAN NOT get the Edge ride (75km) to upload to Strava.

So my ride was not correctly captured. This is quite common.

Any idea ideas on how to upload a single activity to strava from GC?

Thanks

Mike

  • Hi, in addition to 's info, it's my understanding that Strava has a duplicate detection feature that sometimes "blocks" a second upload that appears to be the same activity. It doesn't always happen, but it could explain why sometimes your Edge 130 upload from Garmin Connect isn't appearing on Strava.

Note it can also block a manual upload, such as in this case, giving an error message like "activity already exists" or something like that. Delete the watch upload first before manually uploading the Edge 130 file.

In any case it's obviously not a great idea to upload duplicates to either Strava or Garmin Connect, so best to pick which you want to use. For example recording rides only on the Edge and not the watch, so GC receives only 1 upload and sends only 1 to Strava.

Note if you've been dual-recording the same activity on both Edge and the watch, your Garmin fitness metrics will be really messed up now and it can't be undone. After you stop dual-recording it'll take about 4 weeks for the effects of the distorted metrics to clear out (but they will remain in your user history forever).

  • Thanks, this did the trick

  • Thanks. I alway delete duplicated entries on Strava, but not on GC. I use my watch as the HRM and link that to the he'd unit so I can see that data easily while riding. In order to do so I need to record on both devices. I didn't know about the Strava blocking. Thanks for the feedback
