Why is the intensity minutes feature failing recently?

Hearth rates are recorded correctly and in the moderate to high range, calories are clearly showing intensity but intensity minutes show a flat line.
I do the same exercise hours later and get credited intensity minutes for that second activity only.
Did something change in the calculation recently or is this a bug in a recent update?

  • I can't see any plausible reason why the intensity minutes don't show. Any ideas?

If you post screenshots of the all-day HR graph, and the HR graph of the activity, perhaps we can tell. You also did not tell which device you used for logging the activity.

  • I have an Vivoactive 4.

But I can't find how I insert pictures? It seems it's only possible to insert via an already excisting URL? What do I miss?

  • But I can't find how I insert pictures?

Copy the photo and paste it into the message. Or use the UPLOAD feature in the Import Video/File/Image option

  • Well, I tried that, but it doesn't work. I can't paste pictures and under Insert --> Image/Videofile I only have the option of pasting an url.

Is there som kind of restriction for members with few posts?

  • Not sure why you cannot paste a picture - works for me with any browser, but if you prefer uploading, just click the UPLOAD under the input box:

  • Now it works. Must have been som kind of few posts thing.

    This is the pulse.

This is the pulse with the zones at the bottom.

This is my pulse for the whole day (yesterday)

I've done nothing different theese two recent days and I haven't changed anything on the clock.

  • I need to see also your Resting HR for given day - please post the entire HR screen, including that info too

  • However, assuming from the lowest HR in that day, the Resting HR is somewhere around 70 bpm. And taking in account the fact that you use Vivoactive 4, the 10 continuous minutes limit applies for it too. It means you would have to spend more than 10 continuous mintes without dropping below some 110-120 bpm (roughly 150-160% of the Resting HR). Unfortunately there is no such 10+ minutes long interval in your activity, hence it is not surprising no Intensity Minutes were awarded.

To improve the chance to get more IM counted, I recommend wearing the watch during rest (or during sleep), in order that it can better acquire your Resting HR. The threshold for the IMs will be then lower. On some watches you can also change the settings, and have the IMs counted based on HR Zones, instead of the Resting HR.

  • Here it is. 70 was a good guess :-)

So even if I'm in zones 3 and 4, it doesn't count becuase it compares with the resting HR? I've been sick recently, and I'm not still fully well. When I check the resting HR it's been higher for a few days. So you mean, when I get back to normal I will get minutes again?

The reason I don't wear it at night is bacuse I get a rash from the armband. Which I also guess sets the resting HR to a higher value?

Guess I need to check the setting for to use the HR Zones then.

  • So you mean, when I get back to normal I will get minutes again?

If you stay more than 10 continuos minutes above approx 150%-160% of the Resting HR, then yes.

The reason I don't wear it at night is bacuse I get a rash from the armband. Which I also guess sets the resting HR to a higher value?

I swap the wrist for the night, and make sure to rinse the watch after each activity, and up and then disinfect it with medical alcohol. No more rash.

Guess I need to check the setting for to use the HR Zones then.
