Why sometimes is my epix 2 not registering steps when I am using the walking activity?

Sometimes when I activate the walking activity and complete it, my steps are not reflected in the total counts. It doesn’t happen always, it seems to be intermittent. Any ideas ?

Typically it happens when the accelerometer in the watch cannot sense any steps, which happens for example when you hold on a stroller, mower, caddy, railings, etc.
