Temperature during activity

I’m activity summary my recently upgraded instinct 2 solar surf no longer track high and low temps as did the first version… is this by design? Or do I need to turn on something

Yes, you need to enable the temperature logging in the settings of the activity type you use. By default it is turned off in most activity types (except Open Water Swimming and perhaps a few others)
