Garmin Connect transfer files from old Fenix 7 to New Epic G2 or do I need to do it manually?

Hi.

I just got a new Epix Gen 2 watch to replace my Fenix 7 Solar.

I read all over the internet that there is procedure to back up all the watch files (basically copying the folders Settings, Records, Sports, Courses, Locations, MltSports, Totals) and then, drop them into the new watch (NewFiles folder).

My question is: ¿Does Garmin Connect does its straightforward right now (because I still see all my info at the app) or do I still need to move the files? I added the new watch, and everything seems to be working fine without copying the files, but I don’t know if fodder like Totals make a difference if I don’t move them.

Please let me know if you need more details about my question.

Thank you for the help.

  • There was never any need to transfer any files to keep the data in the Garmin Connect. The data stays on the servers of Garmin Connect, regardless of the device you use.

You can save and restore some files on the watch, for example if you get a replacement device of the same model, in order to restore some of the settings,  but I would not recommend doing it between two different watch mdels.
