Why does my forerunner 55 watch keep trying updating multiple times every day?

My watch asks to update at least 4 to 5 times a day every day. I have been accepting the install requests but it will continue to request over and over.

  • It may be installing several packages (i.e. also the Sensor Hub and/or the GPS firmware - though that would not be 5 times a day), or the upgrade failed for some reason (i.e. indufficient room). In the later case I recommend connecting the watch over the USB cable to a computer, making some free space on the storage (i.e. by deleting old activities in //GARMIN/Activity, unused languages, courses, workouts, ... (folders //GARMIN/TEXT/, //GARMIN/Courses, //GARMIN/Workouts, ...), You can also delete the content of the folders //GARMIN/Debug and //GARMIN/REMOTESW.

Once done, check for the updates with Garmin Express, wait till the watch is fully charged, remove the device from the computer through the OS menu (important to avoid the corruption of the firmware!), then disconnect physically, and let completing the update. When finished, do not forget to do a soft-reset of the watch (hold the Light button for some 20s till it shuts down, then restart) - that's highly recommended after every firmware update.
