Use ANT+ HRM with Bluetooth treadmill?

I have a Forerunner 220 with a chest strap HRM. The HRM connects to the 220 via ANT+. At a workout place, I want to use a treadmill that can receive HRM data via Bluetooth. I would like to be able to have the 220 send HRM data to the Garmin Connect app or other app, and have that app send the HRM data to the treadmill.

How can this be done? If the feature is not available, then I would like this as a feature request.

I would like this on both (or either) Garmin Connect for iOS or for Android.

  • Very unlikely that Garmin will implement that. The Garmin Connect app is pretty stupid and don't do much. It is a pretty much just a viewer for the data the devices upload to Garmin's servers.

Garmin already sells chest straps with bluetooth that will connect to the treadmill and your watch so there is already a solution for it. Garmin will earn money from selling more chest straps, not implementing an odd solution with heart rate forwarding by the app.

  • You're right.

The Garmin HRM Dual transmits both ANT+ and Bluetooth.  So, one option would be to replace an ANT+ only HRM with a dual.

Another option is to get a different HRM to use with the treadmill, and keep my ANT+ to use with my Forerunner. (The treadmill specifies it is Polar HRM compatible.)

I came across another  potential solution: There is a device that Converts ANT+ to BLE. It requires iOS. I don't know if it will actually work for this. And the cost is comparable to an HRM.

  • May I add some editorial?

I don't like the Garmin HRM Dual option. It is available only with the soft strap. I've had bad luck with the soft strap. I can't afford $36 every 9 months to replace the strap. My Garmin rigid strap HRM has worked very well for me for 6 years now.   Unfortunately, the rigid strap models have been discontinued.

I am also concerned about the environment. So, even when I can afford something, I prefer alternatives that reduce my environmental footprint.
