Tennis app totally off on distance

Why is the tennis app not tracking distance accurately? I’m not covering only a mile or two for a three hour match. It seems to use gps which isn’t great in a very small space of a tennis court. Why doesn’t it just track step like Fitbit and Apple Watch.

    1. And what’s with the elevation!? Nothing to do with tennis. Who designed this tennis app!? Obviously not a tennis player. Very disappointed. Somebody please fix the tennis app!
  • Turn off GPS for tennis and it will use your steps to measure distance.

  • And what’s with the elevation!?

Elevation is excellent when you play tennis on a slope Rofl

  • Nope. Tried that yesterday and played a three hour match that showed I only ran about a mile. And no, my opponent was not hitting the ball right to me every time.

  • Some devices, especially those without gyro, may have problems to calibrate the distance based on steps. For people struggling with this issue I wrote a CIQ Data Field app tx Activity STEPS | Garmin Connect IQ showing you the distance based on steps, more reliably than the built-in function.

Using a HRM-Pro chest belt or a foot pod (RD Pod) is another way how to get a better GPS-less distance and pace estimates. Also the master reset of the watch and consequent calibrating it with GPS-enabled runs and walks may help getting the calibration right.

  • Thanks. I’ll give your app I try. But, for the money I spent on this watch, you’d think they would get a simple thing like tracking steps and calculating distance based on that right. I switched to a Garmin from a Fitbit because it’s better at heart rate, but thinking of switching back because of this BS.
