Garmin connect uploads unfinished cycling activities during activities. How can I stop this?

My Strava is connected with my Garmin Connect, I use both in case 1 fails. However when I am out cycling, at various times Garmin uploads small snippets of the activity now & again to Strava even though the activity has not finished? Any idea why this is happening?

  • Garmin only sends activities uploaded to Garmin Connect to Strava. Do you see these snippets in Garmin Connect?

Maybe it is Strava that creates them.

    Check which logged those activities.

  • Good question

Just had a look, you will see from yesterday there is a 152 Mile ride & some smaller ones throughout the day. Some of these seem related to times I have “paused” but that’s only through the auto-pause setting

  • You can get that behavior if you got a speed sensor and you've added it to Garmin Connect. The solution is to remove the speed sensor from Garmin Connect and only connect it to the watch/Edge.

  • Unpaired the speed sensor & that seems to have solved the issue. Thank you for the help

  • I understand you removed the Speed Sensor from Garmin Connect and this has now been resolved.

Just to further clarify for others that may find this thread, if the Speed Sensor 2 is paired to your account in the Garmin Connect app, it will automatically record activities while you are pedaling and then stop/save them after being stopped for a couple of minutes. You can see the difference in these types of activities since they will not have GPS data, and they will list your Speed Sensor as the device rather than your Edge.

It is not possible for an Edge device to automatically save and upload an activity while paused. You must manually stop and trigger a Save on your activity before this uploads by any method.
