Missing "Gym & Fitness Equipment" Activity on Fenix smartwatch

Hi,

I've read a few articles here and there is something that doesn't make any sense, from Garmin. I have a very simple need: I just want to track my gym sessions with the basic info (duration and approximated calories spent) but I can't do that with my Fenix 5!

On the Garmin Connect site, there is a list of available activities and the one I need to use is "Gym & Fitness Equipment" because it's exactly that! Not "Strength" (I don't want to track reps and weights....) or "Cardio". But in my Fenix 5, nothing... No such activity.... Currently, I need to make a "Custom" type activity,  create "My Workout", start it after a multitude of buttons clicks and, at the end, I need to go to the Connect app to MANUALLY change the type of Activity from "Custom" to "Gym & Equipment".

This doesn't make ANY SENSE ! Garmin, WHY !??? There is absolutely no technical reason why I couldn't have the "Gym & Fitness Equipment" activity in my watch!! Please let us know if and when you plan to have a proper update including the addition of this activity in the various watches.

Thanks !

  • You don't have to track sets and reps with the Strength type. Just ignore that part.

I always edit my Strength activities afterwards and delete the one automatically created set. I've also turned of reps counting so it will not track any reps in the set.

  • Thanks for the workaround. I'll give it a try. But still, it's just a shame that Garmin does simply allow the "Gym & Fitness Equipment" activity on the watches! Such a simple and easy solution to a nasty manual process...

  • Your trick is quite nice to easily start the workout on the watch, but I'm still a bit frustrated with the activity summary displayed on the app after the sync. It tries to show "work time" (which is not tracked therefore empty). So my OCD still requires that I manually edit the activity and change it to a "Gym & Fitness Equipment" one... GARMIN !!!! If you read this thread, please fix this non sense and add a simple "Gym & Fitness Equipment" activity in the watches !!!!
