High stress level during activity (Epix 2 + Edge 840)

Hi. I'm not sure which forum category to put this in. I've been using an Edge 840 since Friday to record cycling activity. I use the Epix gen2 to measure my heart rate and the "transmit heart rate" function, which sends this to the Edge. Unfortunately, I've noticed a significant pattern of stress in the app, and from what I can see, the stress overlaps with the activity (the activity recorded by the Edge). As far as I know, activity should "zero out" the stress level.

  • As far as I know, activity should "zero out" the stress level.

Yes, but you would have to start the activity on your Epix too (you do not need to save it at the end, to avoid the duplicate).

  • OK, so that's the only way to go? I thought it happens when synchronizing the devices?

  • I thought it happens when synchronizing the devices?

No, it happens in real time (before the synchronizing happens), though often the watch detects the excess movement automatically alone, and turns off the stress measuring without the need to start an activity. Not sure whether the option MoveIQ has any influence on it, but you could experiment with it.

However, since it was a ride, where the watch detects little to no movement (GPS is not on without starting an activity), it can indeed happen the watch alone fails to detect the movement.

  • Ok, I understand that, but I think it should be part of Physio TrueUp. In the meantime, I run background activity on the watch (without gps) and then discard it, thanks to this, stress is not measured.

  • Ok, I understand that, but I think it should be part of Physio TrueUp.

Have a look at the document What is Physio TrueUp? | Garmin Customer Support - it states:

Your Primary Wearable will be the source for tracking data such as HRV Status, Sleep, Stress, and other all-day data.

    and

If multiple devices are used during the same activity, Training Status data will be determined by the PTD. After a compatible device syncs, Training Status data will be updated on it. If you only use one device at a time, that data will be synced across all devices.

It means in order to use the data of the non-primary device (your Edge), you'd need to remove the primary device (your Epix). By removing, I mean not wearing it during the activity. So that's another option, besides the earlier proposed solution of linking both devices to the HRM and starting an activity on them.
