Garmin watch didn’t pick up high heart rate during workout in comparison to heart rate monitor used at same time.

Hi all. I use a peloton to spin. Garmin watch and peloton do not connect to one another. So I use a heart rate monitor to link upto peloton and normally run my watch at the same time. Today I didn’t run a workout on my watch. I looked back at the heart rate recorded on my garmin and it looked like I didn’t do a workout at all.

I’ve attached photos of the same workout time from my heart rate monitor / peloton and also from my garmin.

can anyone shed some light please?

  • At what time did you do the workout?

In my experience the wrist heart rate often have a hard time with higher heart rates so I try to always use a chest strap.

  • Make sure that you connect the HRM strap not only to Peloton, but also to your watch, and especially that you start an activity on the watch, because otherwise the HRM strap is not being used.

  • 10.35am. I’ve added the workouts on the app

manually. Normally I don’t have any issues if I’m logging a workout on my watch though. Heart rate registers fine then.

  • I’ve got all that covered when I connect to the peloton bike with my hrm. I was just surprised that my watch didn’t show a high heart rate at all during that time.

As I wrote, if you connect the HRM to the watch, and start an activity on it (no manual activity), the watch will record the same HR as your Peloton app. If you omit doing that, it will record the data from the wrist HRM of the watch, and it can be significantly different due to a number of reasons. If you need reliable HR data, connecting the HRM strap is the way to go.
