Missing activity

I have a new Edge Explore 2. I was out on my 4th ride with it today. Near the end of my ride, I got to the Save/Discard screen. I meant to resume the ride after popping into a store, so I didn't hit either button.

Later I had to wake the Edge Explore 2 from sleep mode. When I did that, my ride was nowhere to be found. I connected it to my computer and looked in the Activities folder, but it's not there. I also tried a hard disk recovery tool (Recuva) to look for deleted files. It found a different activity but not my ride from today.

The mystery thickens when I look at Garmin Connect. On iOS, the app actually shows my intensity minutes from today!

On the Garmin Connect webpage, the Activities page says "Compare 0 of 4" activities next to the search box. But under the search box, there's only 3 activities showing up! Is my ride from today stuck in some synchronization limbo?

Where did my ride go--why is it not on the device? Does Garmin not cache a ride to its drive at all while it is recording? Why is there no Trash bin for discarded rides?

This is totally bizarre. I haven't had such an experience recording on any other device. I might have to go back to my Apple Watch + Strava setup.

  • I do not know where your activity went, but to me it looks like you either inadvertently discarded it, or perhaps the device crashed and rebooted while in the sleep mode. You could try looking into the folder //GARMIN/Debug to see whether there is a crash log for the concerned time. Frankly told, I'd rather tell it was discarded by pushing a button accidentally, because even when the device crashes and reboots during an activity, the activity is usually not discarded or lost.

Intensity Minutes are being calculated even outside of activities. It is the time spent with HR elevated above the IM threshold, and it has no relation to activities. It is being stored separately (not into the activity file)

  • Compare 0 of 4

That only means that you haven't selected any activities of the four that is possible to compare. The max is always four no matter how many you see in the list.

  • Thanks for your responses--it's helpful to know how the intensity measurement and activity comparison features work.

I'll try to recreate the disappearing ride issue and report back.
