Family account / child device - Need some help on device registration and user account

Hi all,

My daughter is 11 and we've bought her a Venue Sq Music watch. Given she's 11, she can't create a Garmin account and thus can't register the device to herself.

Now as far as I'm aware, if I register it under my account, all her data and activities will start bleeding into my data which I don't want.

What I really want is to register the device under my account but assign the device to her so I get no syncing of data or activities and all the other stuff that happens when the watches under one account are synced.

How can I do this? Can you somehow have a kind of family account for the above scenario? If not, how is a child who's more than capable of owning such a device yet not 16 able to register the watch and use GCM?

is this still the case now or has this been solved? I just came across the same issue now with my under 16 year old kids and their forerunner 235 and VenueHQ Garmins. Both watches are not compatible with Garmin's Junior app. Eveb id I faked their DOB and set up their own Garmin connect accounts, they don't have phones/ipads. So I would be not able to sync their devices into my Garmin Connect phone app, is that correct? or is there a way to log myself out, then sync their watches logged on as them?

Do not do that! It will completely skew your stats and metrics. Use an old phone for installing the app for them. You do not even need a SIM for it, WiFi is sufficient. If you do not have any old phones home, ask friends. People often keep them, and have couple of them in the drawer. It does not need to be an iPhone. If nobody has any at home, you can find 2nd hand Android phones for $5 or so, I believe.

Unfortunately this hasn't been resolved and is exactly the same.

As trux said, whatever you do, don't sync their devices into your account unless you want to be very miserable during this festive season

... and BTW, you can also use an Android or iOS tablet for the syncing. Or when nothing else, then you can sync their watches over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express. Just make sure to use another account and another device for each of them. Once their watch can sync to their GC account you can view their data on your phone. See the article below:

... and you can also use the Garmin Clipboard team app to review stats of multiple users:

So does the Clipboard App allow the same read-only benefits as the shared account access plus more trux?

Just after a high-level difference between the two methods rather than trudging through the online documents.

I do not use it (yet), but watch the video, it will give you some idea. Or install it and test. I suspect it offers less details than the "Authorized Viewer" account, but it may be way much comfortable, especially if there are several persons that you want to follow.

I have the Garmin junior app. Can I link a Garmin watch that is not a junior watch to it? My children are also getting too old for the junior watches.

That's a very good question, but my gut says not.

The junior app will most likely be missing functionality that the standard watch either requires to work or makes it worthwhile. I could easily be wrong though,
