Garmin instinct not registering in run

This started about 6 months ago. I set up for a run and I start but my Garmin instinct doesn’t register anything other than time. No distance or pace. I stop it and discard then start it again and it works. Has anyone else ran into this problem

GPS was locked? (a check sing in the round field)

Nope. It has worked fine for over a year and then this has started happening. I literally notice within the first 50m. Stop it and discard it and start it straight away and it works

So that's the problem. You have to wait the GPS lock before starting the activity. If it takes too long, it means your ephemeris data file is expired or corrupted (What Is EPO or CPE on a Garmin Product? | Garmin Customer Support)
