Tracked walk registers more calories burned than the equivalent steps

I do the same walk every day. If I track is as an activity on my garmin it registers in excess of 100 calories in my fitness pal. I didn’t today and it only gives me 25 calories for the steps I’ve done

  • Steps are irrelevant for Calories. Heart rate is used, not steps, as long as your watch has a HR sensor.

  • I’m using MyFitnessPal to track my calorie deficit. I do exactly the same exercise but record the walk on the first day and not on the second. Day one says I’ve burned considerably more calories than on day 2 yet the only difference was that I pressed a button on my watch. It doesn’t make sense

  • The heart rate may differ from one to another. As well the avg. Resting HR tends to change, and that's an important factor too. Also when you are recording an activity, the HR is more accurate, due to the higher sampling rate.

But especially, MFP does some strange math with the Active Calories, and when importing data from Garmin Connect, you need to use the setting Enable Negative Adjustments on the page https://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings. In order to work properly with Garmin Connect it has to be on.
