Fenix 6 / 1030 plus - 1 person, same activities, very different training statuses? Why?

Fenix 6 pro and 1030 plus. I wear the Fenix most of the time. 1030 plus for bike rides with Fenix broadcasting HR. Not just different loads, but different advice. I sync both before activities, both have physio true up enabled, both firmwares are up to date. Same person, same dates, same activities. Both using 'acute load". Very different results, very different advice. Very different graphs. Why?

  • The advices will be different because you got different values. So the question is why the values are different.

I believe you might have failed to sync the values between the devices some time or several times. Check the exercise load pages and compare between the devices. They should look exactly the same if you synced them before every activity.

  • I take your point. But both devices are synced before activities, and the load pages are identical. Still different totals, leading to different advice. Same on Garmin connect web, two very different training loads. Here's IOS loads

  • Why does it say "7-day load" in the last screenshots and "Acute load" in the first ones? Does it change when you switch tabs?

Is the Edge 1030 Plus updated with Training Status 2.0? That could explain the difference in training load. Acute load is calculated differently than Acute load.

In the manual for Edge 1030 Plus the status "Strained" is missing. It was added with Training Status 2.0.

    Tranining Status Edge 1030 Plus

    Training Status Fenix 6 Pro

  • No that doesn't change when I switch tabs. If I flip between fenix and 1030 plus  both show acute load as in my 1st post. When I switch to the "excercise load" tab in both, both read 7 day load. The screens are the same. Total remains different. Very odd. I agree the manuals show the extra training status level on the fenix. But that is just a label applied to a total, it shouldn't affect the totals calculated?

  • I believe that Edge 1030 Plus doesn't have Acute load like the Fenix 6 have. Acute load is calculated differently than 7-day load. That explains the difference in values.

Status Strained was added in Training Status 2.0 together with Acute load, so that is an indicator that it isn't added to Edge 1030 Plus.

The updating of the tab label is a bug.

  • Hmmm. Still not very impressed. The Fenix 6 pro (released Aug 2019) is older than the 1030 plus (released June 2020). If Garmin want people to buy what were the flagship models at the time, they should work well together, no?

  • I think that the odd one is the Fenix 6. It was probably a surprise to many that it got the new training status.

The values you see are correct since you sync them correctly. There are just two different algorithms that are used. The old and the new.

  • So I'm better of going with the Fenix 6 pro Training Status over the 1030 plus. Thanks for the info!

  • Don't know if you tried this, i had the same combination and the same problem as you have.

Received this from Garmin support :
