my watch (forerunner 55) does not connect with the app - need help

I dropped my old phone in water and ruined it. I have a new phone ( iPhone xr) and when I log into garmin, my watch (forerunner 55) does not connect with the app. I’ve deleted the app, turned off/on my watch, and the two will not sync.

It appears that the watch is still trying to connect with the old phone. To manually enter pairing mode on your watch, hold UP, and select Menu symbol (gear icon) > Phone > Pair Phone. Then try to add the watch using the Garmin Connect mobile app.

How Do I Pair My Watch to a New Phone?
