Why has my garmin connect, stopped showing map .

My garmin instinct records my run but this doesn’t show the map on connect or even on strava

  • Check the "Related"  threads on the right side of this page - it is a frequently asked question, and you should find the answer there. In brief - GPS was either disabled, or not locked, possibly due to outdated or corrupted ephemeris data. Read the other threads for more details.

  • Good evening. What is ephemeris data? Why suddenly does the watch / ap or whatever decide not to lock GPS? It has worked fine, now suddenly it decides not to lock GPS. I must say I am not impressed by my instinct solar and also not impressed by Garmin customer service. Apologies this sounds like I’m having a go at you but I’m not. Just want to know if you have similar experiences. Thank you.

This is not a Garmin Support platform. You are on a user forum, and you won't often see Garmin employees intervening here. A bit higher chance for that is in the subforums for individual models. But if you want to speak to the Support, you best contact them directly through the support website (https://support.garmin.com)

Personally, I owned the Instinct 1th gen (non solar) for a few years, and was impressed so that I bought Instinct 2 immediately when it came out, and am impressed even more. Excellent price/value ratio, and going from Instinct to Instinct 2 feels like skipping 3 generations of models.

  • Thank you for your reply. Will try the link you provided. Couple of things with my instinct solar - barometer and altimeter do not give accurate readings. Temperature readings not accurate. Compass does not always show true, though I know that there are factors that could affect this. Battery - I’ve yet to get the 25 days claimed by Garmin. I don’t use the GPS much and will get about 18 days. Maybe my expectations are too high. I have contacted support but first suggestion is to look in the manual. I’m contacting them because I can’t get the answer in the manual!

Also take care to keep the sensor port opening clear of sweat. At instinct the hole is very close to the skin and can get very easily blocked. And protecting it from wind gusts and moisture by a sleeve, sweatband, or a pies of fine mesh can make miracles too.

    Temperature readings not accurate.

The thermometer does not measure body temperature, nor the air temperature. For getting the ambient temperature, you have to remove it from the wrist for several minutes, so that it is not warmed up by your body heat.

Compass does not always show true,

Calibrate it. If it does not help, remove the wristband, including the spring bars and test the compass without it. If it then work OK, the spring bars are magnetized and you have to demagnetize them.

18 days with occasional use of GPS sounds very fair to me. Instinct specifications tell "Up to 14 days" in Smartwatch mode (no GPS used at all)

  • Thank you so much for your replies. They are very helpful and great to give me an understanding of how things work. Have a great day.
