Fitness age diffs men and women?

Fitness age: why is my lowest fitness age 35 (I am 43) and two of my male friends have a fitness age of 20 and 24 (they are 43 and 50 respectively)? There are no tips for me to improve. My vo2 max is too 1%, bmi is 20.7, and resting heart rate is 40-45.

  • I was amused to see that you asked the same question that I want to ask. My achievable fitness age is only 5.5 years younger than my actual age and my husband’s fitness age is 12.5 years younger than his actual age. I find that a little frustrating. We bought our Garmin watches at the same time and we always exercise together. Too bad no one from Garmin answered your question. Seems to me their algorithm could be tweaked a little.

  • Which watches do you have? I've never heard that anyone got more than 10 years less than the actual age with the new fitness age function.

  • We have Venu 2S watches. The relevant variable here may not be the watch itself, but rather the age group. I'm in my 60's and my husband is in his 70's. Since my initial post, I corresponded with Garmin. They said VO2 Max numbers weigh heavily on the fitness age calculation and indeed my VO2 Max is higher than my husband's so that might account for the difference. Just means he needs to work a few HIIT routines into his schedule to increase his VO2 Max. We can do that.
