Garmin Connect automation

How do I get Garmin Connect to schedule and start a specific workout based on a calendar entry or geofence? Can do the geofence/calendar filter in IOS automation, does anyone know how I do the rest please ?

  • Do you want your Garmin watch to automatically start a scheduled workout depending on your location? Don't you want to start the workout when you actually start the workout?

There is no such function in Garmin Connect or the watch.

Would it be possible to create with a 3rd party app? The GPS in the watch is not on unless you select to start an activity so it can't know where you are. The phone can locate you, but it can't send a start command to your watch. A widget could talk to the phone or an online service and ask if it should start an activity. I'm not sure about the capabilities for widgets.

The easiest is probably to just send a notification and tell you to start the workout when you are at the correct location.

  • Agreed.   The closest I know you can do on a Garmin watch is to schedule the workout in Garmin Connect, which will automatically suggest it if you launch that workout type that day.  (so that you don't need to remember what you need to do).  It's pretty handy.     If instead you are looking to do something like have a Hike start exactly at 2:00pm no matter what you are doing at the time, or have a bike workout start as soon as you leave home, there is no way I know of to have the Watch do that.   Garmin Connect doesn't record activities at all, so thats a non starter.   I checked a few other fitness apps to see if any supported Shortcuts, and couldn't find one that did.  Basically that's what you will need to find so that you iPhone can trigger the software and then you will need to figure out how to get the file that app produces into Garmin's ecosystem.   Good luck!
