Garmin for freedivers

I’m happy that you figure out to enable the sport of freediving for Garmin.
Now some suggestions

  • There is one discipline option missing in the App for indoors and outdoors freediving Dynamic Bifins for pools Constant Weight Bifins for outdoors short DYNB and CWTB
  • Very important for the pool training is that the dive computer is start do go into dive modus already within 30-60cm under the surface. I have the Descent G1 and it’s figuring that it’s start the dive way to late around 120-140cm of depths that means my dive ist starting to late and stopping to early. The divetime is wrong, mostly to short and the beginning of tthe dive is not recorded by the devices.

There are some more variations for the training.

About how full are the lounges or how much air you take with you for the dive.

  • FRC Dive - Functional Residual Capacity means not forced expiration dive. Useful to train in shallow water dive the flexibility of diafragma and simulate depths, and to see how is the Residual Volume of the lounges.

It would be nice to have a feedback

Sure it would not be bad, but then, there are thousands of sports and disciplines not available at all, including some very popular ones, so I am afraid the probability of adding all freediving disciplines is not very probable. This is more a domain for 3rd party Connect IQ apps.

I am afraid that it would result in false data too, since you often dip the hands that deep, even when just standing at the pool end, or while swimming. It would require additional complex handling, trying to exclude these false positives. Again, I am afraid that the likelihood of Garmin doing it is very small. There is a better chance finding a fellow freediver capable of programming a Connect IQ app.

and to see how is the Residual Volume of the lounges.

The watch does not have any sensor capable to tell you how full your lungs are.

  • Hi Trux are you developer?

The CWTB option would be only one menu option more, of the already existand of cause it’s a way harder dive in compare to monofin.

More effort it would be to build a configuration menu in in what depths the computer starts to record a dive. The easy way would be to make a difference in Scuba and Apnea diving.

60cm or 80cm for the start of a dive would be okay too.

The RV is a misunderstanding here, it’s not connected to the Wearable.

  • Hello All,

the alternatives are a Pool-Apnoe sport function or a sensor option “Dive start depths”.

     Best regards!
