Zwift cycling VO2MAX in Garmin connect

Hi. I’ve recently (a week ago) bought a forerunner 255 to replace a much used 235. I use Zwift extensively in addition to running regularly. The 255 is displaying my previous running VO2MAX but I had hoped that it would use my historical Zwift data (which it clearly has) to generate a corresponding cycling VO2MAX. Unfortunately it doesn’t. I’ve (today) just completed a 43k Zwift ride but still nothing. Is there something I need to do to get a cycling VO2MAX. (I have full heart and power data from my kickr core).

You need a Garmin device recording the ride with a power meter connected to it.

Read more details in the document What Is VO2 Max Estimate and How Does It Work? | Garmin Customer Support. More specifically, it tells the following about the VO₂max at cycling:

    • Cycling activity must be 20 minutes in length or longer without stopping.

    • Heart rate data from either a built-in optical heart rate sensor or from a chest strap.

    • Heart rate must be elevated to at least 70% of your maximum heart rate for at least 20 minutes continuously.

    • Power meter is required.

    • If using an Indoor Trainer you must record the activity using a Garmin device that supports VO2 Max such as an Edge computer or Forerunner.

This did the trick for me, i.e. all activity data syncs from Zwift to Garmin including VO2Max.

I use a Forerunner 955 with HR broadcast on during Zwift rides and a Wahoo Kickr v6.

  • So in the case of the original poster with a Garmin FR255, it is not on the supported devices list to include all of these metrics.  At least at the time article was posted.

    Which devices does this support?

Essentially, anything with so-called ‘Training Load’, which means you’ll see a load-specific number somewhere on your device. The current list of devices supported by it:
