Forerunner 245m gets calls and e-mails but cannot receive texts. Is there something different I have to enable for texts?

I have gone through procedures to enable smart notifications and everything looks like it should work, but I don’t get texts on my Forerunner. I have an iPhone. I’m also wondering if maybe there is a setting I need to change on my phone.
