Active calories TOO high

Hi,

I’m using a garmin fénix 6 and since yesterday my active calories are showing close to 7000kcal even though my only activity during these two days is about 5000 steps.
anyone else’s experience this bug? Resetting/restarting has not helped this. HR is showing normal readings as well as everything else.

  • Could you post some data? For example the screenshots of you daily HR and Calories graphs.

  • There is little usable information in your screenshot. The graphs are needed

  • Sorry, I hope these are to any help

  • Yes, that's perfect. Indeed the Calories seem to be too high for that HR values. Some users reported in the past, having the Calories doubled, when the option MoveIQ was enabled. Try turning it off. Another case, when Calories became doubled was at some users with multiple devices + HRM Pro, but I think it is not your case, or is it?

Another reason for a high Calorie burn might be a high Exercise Load (and hence the EPOC) from the activities in the last days. Check it out in the Reports.

Also, what value is the "Activity Class" set to, in your User Settings?

  • Thank you so much for the in-depth reply. Since I have gotten this watch (6monts ago) I have had the exact same settings and not changed anything. I’ll try to switch of the moveIQ anyway. And yes you are right I do not have any other devices so that not the case for sure. And the activity level has always been set to “none” I could try and play with it. Really weird problem these calories for me are almost three times my normal rest day as my rest day is normally about 2500-2700kcal. And gym session around 300-500 more and the I rough cycling session around 800-1200kcal

  • I could try and play with it.

Theoretically should not be used at Fenix 6 (this Garmin Support document claims it is used only at older Edge and Forerunner devices), but I am not entirely sure it is true. Definitely better keeping it at the true level anyway.

As I wrote, some excess Calories may come from the post-exercise effort, so check the Training Status too. Though your values are pretty high for that anyway, I'd tell. Turn off first the MoveIQ, and see whether it makes any difference.

  • Just to let you know, I had my

garmin turned off the whole night and now it miraculously works again as it should even with moveIQ turned on.

Nice! But perhaps the MoveIQ just did not detect any activity yet. In your place, I'd disable it anyway. It is a completely useless feature, and can only cause troubles, without bringing any added value.
