Gps in open water

Very un-happy with GPS for open water, gps connects perfect for runs and cycles gps,

but for open water swims it’s always haywire and really upsets me as I paid €600+ for my forerunner 945

99% of the time this happens, very unhappy will be looking for replacement when home.

  • GPS will not work when the watch is under water. It needs to be over the surface every so often. Front crawl, back crawl and butterfly will work. For *** strokes you need to hold the arm above the surface from time to time.

  • I will keep in mind next time, but today I swam half  *** half front stroke and this was my result

  • I will keep in mind next time, but today I swam half  *** half front stroke and this was my result

Not sure how half breaststroke / half front stroke looks like, but you will get the best results with plain clean crawl (freestyle), or with the back stroke. The watch simply needs to be above the water surface with every stroke, in order to keep the lock on the satellites. If you cannot adjust your swimming style, consider wearing the watch under a swimming cap, or on a small float.

You can also check some tips in the document Tips to Improve Accuracy of Open Water Swim Activities

In addition to that, I'd also recommend enabling the Every Second Recording in the System settings, and GPS+Galileo in the settings of the Open Water Swim activity.

  • By Half half I just mean iv only began swimming in January am not great at front stroke yet but I am improving so when I go to open water I will swim about 100m fs at a time and recover in *** stroke, (even when I’m standing on shore it will register me as maybe 1km away from where I am actually standing in the map you can access from swim settings),

I have a orange float so I might leave the watch in the pocket next time and see if that helps

i wil check that every second option too thank you

    Thanks again
