The use of courses?

Hi,

I run a lot with my FR745 and recently tried to create a course in one of my favourite local running routes. I then ran it as a Race and got a new record. Yey!

But then what? I can’t find anything about the course in the run activity in the iOS app only in the web GC it is noted that the run was on that course but not much else. I can not see any where to view recent runs on that same course or what my record run for that course is. What’s the point then?

I would like to compare times in that course. How do I do that?

I would like to share the course with my neighbours and see who’s the fastest of us on the course. How do I do that?

It seems rather basic in course functions but I can’t find it.

How do you guys solve this?

  • The main point with a course is to use it for navigation.

You can't compare results easily. I use Strava for that.

You can share the course in Garmin Connect. Make it public. Send the link to your friends.

  • Thank you for answering!

… I see. There is a great potential in using Courses for result benchmark and competing as well as navigation. It would be a great feature for Garmin to add and it seems like most of the functionality is already in place for Garmin. From an outside perspective it’s low hanging fruit.

I never liked Strava and I don’t want one more eco system for my training data. Shame Garmin didn’t build it in GC.

Looks like you are looking more for the feature that is called Segments in Garmin Connect, Courses are indeed practically exclusively for the navigation, while Segments will allow you to see your progress on the same track, or to compare your performance with others on that route. It may be a short segment of just some tens of meters, but it can be a kilometers long track as well.
