Garmin Instinct Keep Tracking After Training is Done

I have a Garmin Instinct. I setup a training program by day so I can go into activity and use my tailored program. However, whenever the Training Program is over I click the GPS button and all it asks me to do is save the GPS position. I have to go back and forth between that and the activity screen (wasting time, while it is tracking heart rate, time and distance, misconstruing my data) before it finally asks to save the activity.

(1) why doesn't the tracking stop when my training program is done?

(2) if I have to stop it myself, how do I do so without mashing a bunch of buttons, I have tried clicking the GPS and "holding" the GPS button down to no avail, it just goes to the save GPS location screen. It's really frustrating because the program is very time sensitive and this is messing up my data big time.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • 1) Because most people will continue to run/bike etc for a while longer even after the workout has ended.

    2) Just do a short press of the stop button. Don't hold the button. If you hold the button you save the GPS position.

  • Exactly as  wrote, but if you are consistently entering the GPS menu instead of the Stop Activity menu, even when pressing the button just very shortly, then the button may be jammed with dirt, or damaged. In that case follow the instructions from the document A Button on My Edge Is Stuck or Hard to Press (never mind that it is for the Edge). Also read the Wear and Care Tips for Garmin Watches. If it does not help, and the button keeps on jamming, contact the Support.

  • ... and also, just for case we misunderstood the problem - if the screen you are getting upon pressing shortly the GPS button, looks like the one below, then it does not ask you to save the GPS position, but to save the Activity data (including the workout). Scroll down once (left bottom button), and press the GPS button again to confirm.

  • I appreciate the reply, I am likely going to try to clean the buttons a little as even when I simply click the GPS it pops up the GPS Save Location screen, and keeps tracking the data. Hopefully cleaning the buttons will help a little bit. Again, thanks for the reply.

  • Thank you for the reply, I am going to try to clean the buttons a little and see if that helps. Even when I quickly click GPS, it just goes to the save GPS location screen, so it might be the button having dirt in it or something.
