My calories from an activity is not shown in daily calories as active calories

i did a bike ride the other day where i burned 2750 kcal.

After a few hours i checked my daily calories to see how much cake i could eat - and to my surprise i could eat 1000 less calories than my bike ride consumed.

My daily showed only showed 1800 - deducting my BRM for the period of the bike ride from the calories from the bike ride would give me 2500 kcal.

This has happened since i got my Garmin Instinct 2 a few weeks ago. I can see that people write that removing old watches, resetting their account(delete/create a new one) etc. fixes this issue - i dont want to do that, i have had my account for 5 years now.

Is there any other solution to this bug?

It is not a bug. Calories burned during an activity include also the RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate), not only the Active Calories. The RMR you'll burn anyway, even if you stay laying in the bed, that's why the excess Calories are much lower.

  • I agree with you that the bmr is deducted from the activity.

my activity was 2,5h long, my bmr is approx. 50kcal per hour, this is 125 kcal which should be deducted from 2625kcal. Which is still 825kcal from the estimate garmin connect gives me.

It would help if you posted some screenshots showing the numbers, so that we can see there is not a problem in wrong interpretation of the data.

BTW, I do not know whether it is really necessary. I do not have any such problems with Calories, even after adding Instinct 2, and retiring my old Instinct. However, even if you delete the old device from your account completely, you will in no way lose the old data. Once they are in your Garmin Connect account, they stay there forever, even if you delete the device.

  • These 2 pictures are taken 1h after my ride on Sunday.

  • Yes, indeed, you are right. Something does not match there. Looking at the details of the Activity at https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/8782153262, I see you burned  233 Calories in RMR, and 2517 Active Calories, while your daily Calories review shows only 1880 Active Calories. That value should be higher than the active calories for the activity alone. If it was really taken the same day, after the ride.

I suggest that you contact the support and give them the details, including the exact numbers shown on the GC Web page of the concerned activity, as well as the screenshots.
