Garmin App on Iphone 11

My iphone 11 Pro is currently running iOs 15.3.1. After using the Garmin App I swipe up to close it: however, when I touch the Garmin icon to see whether it has closed, my screen continues to show information about my last run/walk. In other words, it appears to still be operating. Is it? Can I get Garmin's home screen again?

Don't you start the app when you touch the icon? It will then show the My Day page with what you've done today.

If you want to see if it was closed you can go to a another page than the My Day page and then close the app. If you then see My Day page when you touch the icon again the app was closed and you opened it again.

You shouldn't really close apps. The operating system in your phone will handle the app lifecycle.
