Can't upload a work-out (.FIT or .TCX) from my iPhone straight to Garmin Connect App

Hi,

I am using a third party trainingsplan. On there website I have the possibilty to download my next work-out as either a .FIT or  .TCX file. I know the .FIT file works with my Forerunner 935, because I am able to manually add the work-out to my watch via USB connection on laptop and adding it to the work-out folder. So there seems no issue with the .FIT work-out file.

If I download the work-out on my iPhone, I would expect to be able to open/upload/share the file with my Garmin Connect App. Although once selected the .FIT file I do not have the option to select 'Garmin Connect' in "open with" or "share with". Why is this?

A less preferred (but more preferred than the current one) option is to upload the .FILE via the Garmin Connect Webpage. Here I always get the error that my file is not accepted.

Thanks!

  • There is no functionality to import workouts so you will have to use the USB transfer method. Maybe there is a third party service that can import trainings files and then sync them to Garmin Connect. TrainingPeaks got that sync function, but I don't know if you can import workouts to that service.

  • I have found a way to transfer tcx routes wirelessly to my Garmin Edge 1030. It involves using another app but this allows transfer of files when you don’t have access to a desktop.

Mapout is a brilliant navigation app for travel especially cycle touring. To import a tcx route to Mapout you email the tcx route to your special Mapout email address you get when registering the Mapout app.

To send tcx route to my Garmin I use the following steps.

    1. Email the tcx route to my Mapout email address.

    2. Open the Mapout app on your iPhone and you will see the route you have just emailed. Select this route and select the SHARE icon.

    3. In the options that the share Icon displays, you will see the GARMIN CONNECT icon.

    4. Selecting the Garmin connect icon will allow you select the course type, ie road cycling, then you will be given the option to save the route.

    5. Once the route is saved, you select the triple dot option icon and this will give you the option to send the route to your Garmin on the next sync.

A roundabout way of getting tcx routes to your edge device wirelessly but it works. Garmin should have made syncing files easier as once you are cycle touring it is difficult to transfer files.

This should also work for gpx routes etc.
