Garmin Connect iOS mobile app saying Bluetooth is turned off when it is not

I have a Garmin Forerunner 45s (purchased about two years ago) which has been working well and connecting with the Garmin Connect iOS mobile app since its purchase. I recently upgraded to a new iPhone and downloaded the Garmin Connect iOS mobile app, but every time I attempt to pair my watch to the phone, it says: "Bluetooth Off. Make sure Bluetooth Technology is turned on in your iOS device settings. The Bluetooth icon appears in the status bar at the top of the screen." In settings, the Bluetooth is definitely turned on, and I have tried deleting the app and re-downloading it, and restarting the phone and the watch. My watch is definitely in pairing mode (hold 'up' button > phone > pair phone) every time I attempt to pair it, and both app and watch are updated to the latest versions, however it appears that is an issue with the app (misinterpretation that the phone has Bluetooth switched off) rather than my watch or the phone itself. (I know that the Bluetooth on my phone is definitely working as it has been tested with other devices).

Has anyone else experience this same frustrating problem? Any ideas of how to solve it?

  • There are 2 places you need to have Bluetooth turned on:

    1. iPhone Settings > Bluetooth > Toggle On
    2. iPhone Settings > Connect > Bluetooth >Toggle On
  • I just encountered this with my wife's new Lily.  I could connect it with my Android Phone easily but on the IPhone it could not detect Bluetooth first and then could not pair - very frustrating!!!   The steps I took to resolve this were:

    1) Activate Bluetooth on iPhone: Set the Bluetooth off on iPhone and turn off.  Turn the iPhone back on and turn the Bluetooth on.  Check settings on iPhone for Connect App that Bluetooth is on

    2) Remove iPhone cover - my WIfe's iPhone cover has glasses on back.  This just ensures no physical obstructions to iPhone Bluetooth

    3) Connect New device to Garmin Connect and select Lily

    4) On Lily watch, go to Bluetooth settings and Pair phone.

: The Connect App found the Lily and then I could enter the PIN on the iPhone to pair these properly

  • Thank you, this solved my issue.
