Can't pair my iPhone with Gamin Instinct Solar.

I've tried all the suggestions in the previous chats but no success.

It seems that the Garmin app thinks my phone doesn't have bluetooth switched on. When I go to add a device it says "Bluetooth Off". and "Make sure Bluetooth tech is turned on in your iOS device etc"  But Bluetooth IS ON!  Just to confirm I checked that my phone still plays music to my car via bluetooth and also to remote speakers and to cordless earphones.

I've tried: turning phone off and on again, toggling bluetooth on and off in setttings, deleting and reloading the Garmin app etc.  I wonder if it's because new versions of iOS don't have a bluetooth icon on the home screen?  Perhaps this is what the app is looking for?  (I'm using iPhone 12 with iOS 15.2)

  • Since posting this, I've now solved the problem thanks to a helpful post by another user Lemony.

As Lemony pointed out, the Gamin app comes with its default set to 'Bluetooth not enabled'.   Why Garmin does this is a mystery given that the main purpose of the app is to connect via bluetooth to a phone.

As well as turning on  bluetooth on the phone, it is necessary to scroll down to the Connect app in settings and turn on bluetooth for the app.

Can't understand why this isn't the default and why Gamin don't explain this, even in their troubleshooting advice.

  • It’s not garmin’s fault. iOS pops up a message when the app asks for access to Bluetooth. If you don’t give permission, the Bluetooth will be turned off for the app.
