Fenix 6 sapphire

Why does a Garmin watch count calories if it is not worn? In this case it is Fenix sapphire pro…

  • Your body is always burning calories no matter what you do.

    "Resting Calories
Also known as Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR), these are the calories that you are always burning, even when your body is in a sedentary state, such as sleeping or sitting down. Resting calories consist of the minimum calories required to support your body’s basic physiological needs, as well as your age, height, weight, and gender, plus an estimate of those calories required for activities like digestion and being mentally alert."

  • thanks for the answer… it is crystal clear to me that the body expends calories while a person sleeps or rests… but if it does not measure heart rate why does it measure calories if the watch is not on hand .. i think we should correct this…

  • The RMR is not effected by your heart rate so it is correct that you will get a value even if you are not wearing your watch. The only thing that will stop RMR is that you die. So either you die or accept that you will get a calorie burn even with the watch off :D
