Apple Watch GarminConnect App

Are there any plans for Garmin to release Apple Watch specific app?

It would be great functionality if one could:

1. Pair Edge to AW directly.

2. Receive notifications from AW.

3. Use AW to post Garmin LiveTrack information

Use case:

With those features available it would be possible to leave your phone at home and only take AW along for the ride, while still remain connected.

I am not a developer so I don't know if any of above is even possible.

I am aware that relying on 4G with AW will use more battery but it would be neat that's for sure!

Conscious of the fact that Garmin sees Apple as a competitor and there may be political reasons why there's no Watch App,

however Garmin should really see AW users as a fact and should do more to support users that already purchased Garmin hardware.

  • Doubtful .. since Garmin has their own smart & sports watches.

  • I was about to post something similar and i found this...

Another feature would be Incident Detection Notifications.

In my case i have a Epix gen 2 and Garmin Edge 830, but a cheap apple watch series 5 with LTE is on my hands now, so a Garmin Connect for Apple watch with LTE with limited Cellular / Bluetooth functionalities would be great. Thinking in removing bands to the apple watch and throw it in my case to be carried in the backpocket.

No activity syncs, metrics, etc, etc. Just conectivity.

It would be simpler and more reliable to set up the incident detection on the Apple watch. The less devices in the chain, the less potential problems.

  • No. You are not getting the point, the issue is trying to get out without a cell phone. The apple watch with LTE acts as a cell phone 1/10 of a size.

No less devices, the same two but instead the phone, the apple watch with LTE.

I understood it well, but it is nonsense using Apple watch like a relay for sending incident alerts from a Garmin watch, when you can configure the Apple watch self for sending them directly, without the need of any connection between Garmin and Apple.

  • With the lack of LTE options for the current models - and with so many people I know who run both an Fenix / Forerunner / Edge and also a Apple Watch (for the connectivity) AND who don't carry a phone - having the ability to run LiveTrack etc between the devices would be a great feature.

Can't believe this isn't already something Garmin already would offer.
