Which Garmin do you have? Not all watches have swimming activity profiles.

This watch does not have a swimming activity profile - Activity Profiles Options on Forerunner Watches

In the current Forerunner lineup these watches have the Swimming profile: 55, 245, 255, 645, 735XT, 745, 935, 945, 955, 965. Also, the 45 only supports 3rd party watch faces, so not possible to add a CIQ activity like swimming.
