3rd party apps suddenly removed and can't be reinstalled

When I looked in the Garmin Connect app on my iPhone I noticed there were updates for the 3 third party apps I use (Dwmap, BC-1000 and routeCourse). I clicked to update DwMap, but after the update these 3 apps were moved down to the "removed" section on my watch. As my FR245M synced the apps were also removed from my watch. It's impossible to install the apps again. You can click the blue install button, but the apps are not showing up under "more activities and apps". What causes this problem and how can it be solved?

I have not tried yet if it's possible to do a re-install via Garmin Express on my PC.

  • Try with Garmin Express. If still no joy, for dwMap I would use the Contact Developer option located on the Connect IQ site. I see your watch is supported, but it's listed as "Payment  Required," so that might be a change. The same for routeCourse - Payment Required.

  • Thank you for the suggestion. I indeed have to try the Garmin Express route. I have paid (lifetime subscription) for dwmap and routecourse (same developer). I have used the paid versions for quite some years now. BC-1000 is supplied as-is.

  • Note dwMap etc are marked as Payment Required, but do not require payment to use their core feature set as described in the App Store listing.

In installation issue cases like this we often see power cycling the watch off and back on and trying again can be a big help.

  • I managed to solve the issue, but still have no clue what was the cause.

    - I connected the watch to Garmin Express (this software had to update, as I only use the PC software only once or twice a year when Garmin Connect is down).

    - all 3rd party apps were visible in Garmin Express in the list "installed"

    - I manually removed some corrupt fit files that prevented Garmin Express from syncing (last year the watch had some issues: it froze during an activity. These corrupt fit files were still on the watch)

    - after syncing all the 3rd party apps were still on the watch as "installed", nu updates for these apps needed to be done

    - from within Garmin Express I changed a setting in the app BC-1000, changed it backed and saved.

    - synced again the watch with Garmin Express

  • No technical help needed at the moment, as all seems to work okay. In none of the Garmin watches I had over the years I came across this weird glitch. fwiw: I already had restarted the watch and battery was about 60%
