New Garmin Forerunner 45 - Pairing failed

I recieved my Garmine Forerunner 45 today, and I can't get it to pair, with my Iphone Xr. My phone finds the watch in the app, asks me to type in the 6-digit pin, and then it tells me Pairing failed.

I have been researching guides and this forum for hours, to find a solution - I've tried to reinstall the app, factory reset the watch, restart the phone and watch etc. bluetooth on/off etc. I can't seem to get it to pair. I have tried activate location servies on my phone as that was suggested in another tread, but regardless of what I do - the end result is the same: Pairing Failed.

Any advice would be very much apprecaited! 

  • Try these steps below and in the video. 

    • Verify that you're running the latest release of Garmin Connect Mobile iOS.
    • In the Garmin Connect app remove Garmin devices (if there are any) - More > Garmin Devices > select your Garmin device > Remove Device
    • On your iPhone go to Settings > Bluetooth > select your Garmin device > Forget This Device
    • If you have any other mobile devices (phones, tablets) nearby and paired with the Garmin, also do the same there - Settings > Bluetooth > select your Garmin device > Forget This Device
    • Restart iPhone
    • Restart Garmin
    • Place your Garmin in pairing mode  - depends on model, but usually hold MENU > select Pair Phone.
    • Pair using Garmin Connect, not your phone's Bluetooth settings.

    If still no joy and since this is a new Garmin, might need to contact Garmin Support

    I've tried the steps you mentioed and even removed all old Garmin Devices connected to the app. Unfortunately it won't succesfully pair.

    It find's the watch, let's me type in the pin - then it says "connecting your forerunner 45" for 10-15 seconds, while the PIN is still up on the watch. Then it gives me the same error "Pairing Failed. The Pin then drops of the screen of the watch and the watch says "Follow steps on Garmin Connect mobile to pair".. 

    Any other advice/suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Contact Garmin. Meanwhile, you should be able to sync with Garmin Connect by using Garmin Express. Requires a Windows or Mac computer.

  • Thank you. I've emailed them. 

    Garmin Express works perfectly fine, which is a good interim solution, but I'd really like to get the app working. I've used it with devices in the past and find it excellent (when it works!).
