Physio Trueup and Workouts not syncing between Edge and Forerunner

I have a Forerunner 245 and and Edge 830. My workouts on the Edge do not update my heart rate, intensity minutes, body battery, and training load (even though syncing and showing up at the top of the page), and my runs do not show up on the Edge or impact load. I have Physio Trueup turned on for both devices. Suggestions?

  • Edge bike computers do not measure intensity minutes and body battery. You must wear your watch for that to be measured.

Are you using a heart rate strap that is connected to the Edge when you are biking? That is a requirement.

For everything to work as intended you must sync the Edge before any rides you do to get the data that has synced from the Forerunner 245. Training load will be a mess if you don't do that.

Don't you see the activities from the Forerunner in the history on the Edge?

  • Additionally, if you're wearable isn't tracking activity minutes when you are riding, try starting a cardio activity and discarding it when done.  That will cause it to track activity minutes.

  • Yes, I wear a heart strap.  My understanding of Physio Trueup is that my ride on the Edge replaces my heart rate recorded by my Forerunner when it was not recording an activity.  Instead, the Edge workout is ignored even when synced correctly.  My work around is to record a “workout” using the data from the heart rate strap on my forerunner simultaneously - and then I get metrics without doubling miles.  Also, if I go on a run with my forerunner, the edge will load it into its history (you can view all of the run stats on the edge screen), but if you go to the load page, it will be empty for my run day - screwing up my training metrics.  Apparently after searching around, people have been complaining about these problems for years, Garmin very well knows they exist, and no solution has been given…

  • If you look at the support page for Physio Trueup you don't see anything about the heart rate:

What many people miss to do is to sync the Edge before the ride. I always do that and got the exact same training load and recovery time on my 945 and Edge 1030.

I don't think that the heart rate from the Edge will be inserted into the heart rate graph in the daily summary. That heart rate graph shows the heart rate from the preferred activity tracker. Your trick to start an activity on the watch to get the heart rate from the chest strap is what you should do if you want to get the correct heart rate and the correct values for intensity minutes and body battery. I don't think you need to save the activity. Just discard it after the activity.

  • Thanks for the clarification.  My load issues are likely caused by the fact that the Forerunner 245 has a reduced Training Status function that only does 7 day load and not 30-day Load Focus.  I just save my “workout” on my forerunner and I get similar load and recovery times on my watch - just not on my Edge because it excludes my runs….
