Intensity minutes messed up - counting too much

Since the update to the intensity minute layout last week the whole intensity minutes function on iOS is messed up

* it's not possible to use heart rate to define what counts as Moderate or Vigorous anymore. No intensity minutes are counted at all.

* when using the automatic setting pretty much everything is vigorous! I just walked to the supermarket. Of this 20 minute trip I got 1 moderate and 13 vigorous minutes. There's something seriously messed up there! Yesterday I cycled mostly slowly, and again got 108 vigorous minutes. That's crazy for a relaxed cycle ride. As a result I'm already at 502 minutes this week, and it's only Wednesday morning.

  • Check your settings under the device, Activity Tracking, Weekly Intensity Minutes and and check to see if ”HR Zones” is on or off.  Mine was off meaning it was using my RHR instead of HR zones to gather my intensity minutes and so I’ve had a really hard time getting enough each week.  If you turn HR Zones on then you can select which zone is moderate and which zone is vigorous intensity.  It sounds like you need to change your moderate zone from 2 to 3 and your vigorous from 3 to 4.  The default when you turn this on is zone 2 is moderate and zone 3 is vigorous.

I’d also check the zone settings themselves under device, User Settings, Heart Rate Zones and see if they’re automatically set to 50-100% based on Max Heart Rate.

  • Yes, as I wrote above: doing this with HR zones doesn't give me any intensity minutes anymore, even not when I set moderate to zone 1 and go on a very stiff walk that should be way above this HR zone.

  • Oh ok, I am not having this issue with the update.  I just worked out with HR zones turned on with Moderate Intensity of zone 2 and Vigorous Intensity of zone 3.  What app version do you have?   I have 4.41.2.1

  • The latest app version. There's nothing else in the store to update. I also have custom HR zones set. The automatic intensity minutes don't work for me, and standard HR zones neither.

  • Having the same problem with Forerunner 935. Hundreds of intensity minutes for doing nothing.

  • I reset the watch to default settings and disconnected from the Android app. On setting it up and connecting it again, the problem seems to be fixed.
