Can Edge Explore receive Heart Rate from a forerunner 235 without starting a Bike activity on the watch?

I'm asking this as I am ending up with 2 activities recorded and duplicate entries on Strava etc- one from the Explore and one from the watch. I've tried not pressing Start on the watch - but this soon reverts to the normal watch face due to a "power save" function. Thanks for any advice.

The function you should use is Broadcast heart rate:

Then you need to connect it like any other ANT+ sensor to the Explore.

Thanks Andy. I do use the "Broadcast HR" function - but I was wondering if the broadcast can occur without actually recording an activity. I use a Garmin edge bike computer as well as the forerunner watch and I am therefore getting 2 activity recordings. I was hoping to use the watch purely as a "broadcasting HR tool". Cheers.

Yes. You don't have to start an activity when broadcasting the heart rate.
