Same question. Had a VM HR and it used to keep track of and record steps during an activity. The VM 3s does not seem to have this option. While you can change data fields in the activity watch settings, steps do NOT show up in reports like they used to. I used to know how many steps it took for me to make a mile or whatever. Now, it only includes steps in daily total. I have been deep into all the menus and steps are nowhere to be found linked to an activity. You can view it during the activity along with whatever options you set up in the data fields, but ONLY during the activity. If it saves the steps info anywhere, I have NOT been able to find it. I am peeved as I loved that feature and now it’s gone. Instead we have body battery and pulse ox. Both are inaccurate and useless.
