Vivoactive 4 won't pair

I originally bought a Vivoactive 4 watch in June last year. It worked fine for about five months, but then it started to fault. I was seldom able to connect to the phone and the battery got drained more or less every day. I called the support center in Norway, we did some troubleshooting but they sent me a new watch after some communication. That too worked fine when I received it, but after a week or two, the heartrate monitor stopped working. There was no green light on the back. So I sent it back, and I received a new watch three days ago.

I paired it with my iPhone 11 and got the latest software 5.60. Everything looked good. I have no other software installed on it. After the previous experiences I wanted to keep it as clean as possible.

About 60 hours later the phone needed some recharging because it was drained (it was at 89% when I got it, I had done a couple of cross country skiing exercises on Friday and Saturday, less than three hours all together). I found it a bit odd that it was drained that fast, but I recharged it. Now I can't make it pair to my phone again. Not to my phone, not to another Android phone I have or my wife's iPhone 11 (which has no history of any Garmin devices connected to it). I have reset (both possible ways) the watch a couple of times without any effect. When I try to pair the watch and the Garmin Connect app (which I have tried reinstalling) they just search for each other until the phone gives up and shows the Open troubleshooting button. The watch never stops searching, just showing an image of the phone and the Garmin Connect icon. I have tried every guide and tip I can find, I have reset the watch several times without much help. The first time I reset it the phones found the watch but was unable to complete the procedure. I have tried to pair them when outside, far away from other devices which could interfere.

I have also deleted the watch (and the previous ones) from Garmin Connect centrally.

I guess I have to call the support center again tomorrow. How many times should they keep sending me new watches which don't work?

  • Getting another watch now and an offer to cancel the purchase. Either my phone somehow destroys my watches or there is a quality issue. It's sad if I have to cancel it because the Vivoactive 4 is a very good fit for me with the right look and feature set. Giving it another go, but it's probably going to be the last watch I try.
