Elliptical workout, does it count steps?

When on an elliptical, does the vivioactive 4 still count my steps? All it shows at the end of a workout are heart rate, calories, and time.

Thank you! I alternate between putting my hands on the stationary bars and the moving ones. I will be sure to post there. Again, thank you for your response!
