I just tried to view my step total for the month of December 2020 and discovered that it is now showing weekly totals for the last year. I would much rather see totals from each month so I can compare.

New steps UI in the app, while being nice and modern, has some regressions and useless features.
New 1d overview is fine, 7d and 4w also.
But 1y overview is complete trash now. Why would anyone want date…
Yes just tried to do the same. This is not an enhancement. Can we have the old view back please?
Based on my incident submission yesterday, I already have an email exchange with Product Support. Sending screenshots of iOS and android app and detailed description of issue at the moment.
January 7th …
Suggest submitting a case to Garmin Support, as I have. Any comments on this sub-forum will likely go unnoticed.
I did, however I don't think they will act quickly or even act at all if this is not a critical massive issue. However I wonder why even anyone thought that replacing months by weeks is a good idea. I'd rather have a possibility to e.g. compare calendar years one to another (instead of only looking at 12 months periods not starting in January). It might be an alternative option, but taking away something existing for years just like that seems a bad way of developing user experience.

I do not think it was intentional. More likely a mistake they were not even aware of.

Agreed. Possibly will be viewed as a "request" rather than an "incident," which places it in a less critical (lower severity level) category. Regardless, it should be reported via the Garmin Support process.
Seems quite unlikely to make a complete overhaul of a screen unintentionally, by a mistake. the only mistake possibility I see that this in fact was supposed to be an alternative version for a user to choose. But chances are rather small. I see it as a development mistake (bad decision).

Quite in the contrary, as a software ingeneer, I see it very much plausible to be a mistake in an argument of a subroutine generating the list of items at the bottom of te report. The weekly list clearly belongs under the 4w report, while the daily list that is under the 4w report, belongs on the 7d screen. On my mind, the argument got shifted one place out of the target. The same happend on the Weight screen too.
However, it does not matter whether it is a mistake or an intention. As long as there are no massive protests submitted directly to the Support, nothing will change. Posts here on the user forum won't help fixing it, at all.
If this would be true and it would be just a programmer's error, it would mean completely no QA in Garmin app development process as it is not some hidden feature or a small change you could miss while testing a new version. So I still hope this is a poorly prepared but planned change. Otherwise I am not sure I want my health data to be processed by such a company.
