Accuracy of steps

Hi there, i got my watch yesterday and I think I’ve calibrated it to be overly sensitive to steps so it is counting steps when I just move my arm and don’t walk! Please help

  • The step counter will count steps when you move your arm. It can't "see" the difference between arm movements and real walking. On my watch (Forerunner 945) it requires 10 steps before it starts to count and those ten steps will also be counted. If I just take 9 steps and then stop it will not count a single step.

How did you calibrate the step counter? I'm not aware of that function. You can set your stride length but that is only used for calculating the distance walked and if you are doing activities without GPS.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve only walked around the house and it’s showing 3000 steps. Definitely not right. I think it’s too sensitive. Do you know how I can reset it to factory settings?

  • 3000 steps for a full day just walking around at home isn't strange. I usually take 500 steps just waking up, making breakfast and making me ready for the day. Even when I had Covid-19 with fever and mostly laid in the sofa watching TV I got over 5000 steps.

Exactly how you do a factory reset depends on the watch, but it should be something like Settings->System->Reset on the watch.
